Outdoor Research | Original Films

We were approached by Outdoor Research in the early days of the pandemic to help tell the stories of their brand & brand ambassadors. With a skeleton crew and strict covid protocols in place, we produced this trio of films which have screened online and at film festivals across the country.

THE BIG OFFICE: Gregg Treinish couldn’t get past the question: How can I add purpose to my outdoor adventures? After trekking far and wide, he wasn’t satisfied with simply enjoying his outdoor adventures. He wanted to give back—and he knew he wasn’t the only one who felt that way. In 2011 he founded Adventure Scientists. Since then, the Bozeman, Mont.-based nonprofit has been connecting all kinds of adventurers with the tools they need to collect data for important scientific research that, in turn, can contribute to conservation efforts.

ESCALADORA: What does it mean to bring your full identity with you outdoors? It’s easy to say “the outdoors doesn’t discriminate” if you’ve never faced discrimination yourself. For Monserrat Alvarez Matehuala, bringing her full identity as a woman of color to rock climbing has been both challenging and healing. That’s why she’s building safe, women-of-color-led experiences to empower others in the outdoors.

ESSENTIAL: In March of 2020 the world changed and with it, all aspects of our lives. Walking a knife’s edge of known and unknown, we learned what - and who - was truly essential. This film chronicles how Outdoor Research converted its factory floor to create masks and other PPE in the early days of the pandemic.
